Inspiration
My prior knowledge of rap music videos subconsciously led to certain subconscious decisions being made throughout the production phase. Two videos which I found to be of inspiration were Isle of Arran by Loyle Carner and Man Don't Care by Jme ft. Giggs. The use of mine-en-scene in the JME video was replicated to an extent within our video which constructs intertextuality. The almost cliche use of props is common within rap videos and acts in correspondence to the dialogue. While in the Carner video I found the tone of the character and how he uses direct gaze to show his power and construct a state of apathy. Conventions of rap music videos

We attempted to utilise conventions of rap music videos to construct a stereotypical video. The first noticeable strategy we used was a monochrome filter for a range of shots. This allows for the lead character (myself) to appear in greater power than he would otherwise and raises his dominance within the video. Furthermore, the use of the monochrome filter constructs an urban undertone to the video. We found that this post production technique acted as a crucial manipulation to the image and amplified the urban ideologies surrounding the locker and large window areas evidence. Another technique that we added to the video was the use of fisheye lens on multiple occasions, stereotypically retro rap videos contain a fisheye sense. We looked to utilise this technique to increase the verisimilitude of the video while also allowing for the video to appear eclectic taking away a sense of monotony. The fisheye lens carries intertextuality to music videos of the past and allows our production to carry multiple ideologies and beliefs. A typical example of this is the Busta Rhymes Dangerous video (image to the right) where a fisheye lens is used to expand the size of buster Rhymes' face and his whole image.
Similarly we used slo-motion, reverse and grainy imaging. This also meets the conventions of a rap music video. The grainy footage adds to the urban feel of the music video and amplifies the urban nature of the locker room setting. This allowed for the representation of a school which appears innocent to be perceived as a sinister which relates closer to the genre of music.
