Storyboard

Image
The storyboarding aspect of planning was something which I found particularly challenging. I feel that my initial storyboards were to vague and lacked specific shot selections. As a result of this, shot taking become a more arduous task at times as I was unaware of what I needed specifically. This led to me needing to reshoot shots which differed but ultimately fit the narrative. The task was made more difficult with my evident lack of artistic talent. Overall, this was a useful process but a storyboard with more specifics would be have been of greater use when filming Preliminary storyboard Storyboard

Music Video

Changes from the first draft

The main differnce I made to my music video from the first draft were some re-shoots and new storyboarding for some sequences. This was particularly evident when filming the flashback within the video. Originally I found that the shots in this part were uncreative and appeared somewhat 'rough'. I found that this was not conventional of the music video industry and decided that some re-shoots were neccessary. I used some more contemporary techniques such as whip pans and matched cuts to help the narrative develop. I also used more long shots and alternating camera angles. Overall, this allowed the narrative to develop and give a slicker approach to the video. From the first draft I have also decided that the video would benefit from the flashbacks being spread sporadically around the video. I felt that this would help the video meet the brief as the video seperates itself from having short film conventions. This distorts the chronology and plays of the way that music videos do...

Intertextuality

Image
The first intertextual reference is in the very first shot. There is clearly two glasses of water which appear to be shaking. This is a reference to the Jurrassic Park movie as in the film it symbolises the presence of the dinosaur. Within the context of the video this presents that action is taking place but the underlying emotion is ultimately fear of the unknown. The second intertextual reference is from The Notebook when the male character Noah picks up Allie. This is seen in the video in the series of clips outside the house. The point if this ensure that audiences understood that the relationship represented was at times very strong and infactuous. The romance in The Notebook is deemed as the fairytale romance throughout the narrative, but within the music video this is not the case. I found this subversive narrative interesting to explore. Both the intertextual references come from very different genre of film. I felt that this hy...

Producer and Director of Bad vibe article

Producer and Director of Bad vibe Creating the Bad Vibe video was such a phenomenal experience. As a director, it is always a privilege to be involved in a big overseas project. As a personal experience, it was amazing to travel to Greece for a week in summer to be able to shoot the video, and as a professional I found it inspiring and enriching to be able to work on this project. Through the video we found it essential to push themes of enjoyment and the undeniable value of friendship when in the face of adversity. Having been young myself at one point I feel like I never truly understood the importance of having reliable and honest friendships. I feel like a lot of kids nowadays look to seek the artificial and temporary satisfaction that life offers. I hope that one teen out there will watch this video and it will make them think about a mate that they have and what they mean to them and how that true admiration of friendship cannot be forged. Or even someone a little...
