Intertextuality
The first intertextual reference is in the very first shot. There is clearly two glasses of water which appear to be shaking. This is a reference to the Jurrassic Park movie as in the film it symbolises the presence of the dinosaur. Within the context of the video this presents that action is taking place but the underlying emotion is ultimately fear of the unknown. The second intertextual reference is from The Notebook when the male character Noah picks up Allie. This is seen in the video in the series of clips outside the house. The point if this ensure that audiences understood that the relationship represented was at times very strong and infactuous. The romance in The Notebook is deemed as the fairytale romance throughout the narrative, but within the music video this is not the case. I found this subversive narrative interesting to explore.
